Writer/Reporter/Multimedia Producer
About Me
I am an energetic writer, reporter and educator with a passion for storytelling. I thrive at delivering clear, concise and compelling messages in a variety of multimedia formats.
I'm a versatile communicator with experience in reporting, video production, blogging, social media, public relations and education. As a freelance writer and multimedia producer, I create web and print content for clients like Bleacher Report, Providence Business News, MedStar Health and D.C. Public Schools. I was Bleacher Report's most trafficked blogger covering Penn State and Syracuse University athletics, regularly producing columns, photo galleries, slideshows and other content.
Previously, I spent six years as a broadcast journalist covering news and sports in Pennsylvania and Virginia. I conceptualized, wrote, shot and edited two stories each day for web and television broadcasts, as well as expanded our social media presence. I prided myself on telling local stories in new and creative ways. For example, I worked with a group of students to get their high school's grammatically incorrect mascot, "The Bisons," into Webster's Dictionary. The project led to a series of on-air stories, a marketing campaign, a Facebook page with more than 1,500 members, and a profitable tee-shirt sale that generated money for the Haiti Relief Fund.
In 2011, I joined the D.C. Teaching Fellows, an Americorps program, to help bridge the achievement gap in low-income schools. I currently serve as the Communications Director and Special Education Teacher at Truesdell Education Campus in Washington, D.C. I'm passionate about using my communications experience for social good.
Specialties: Writing and editing, creative storytelling, social media management, video and other multimedia production, blogging, strategic communications, media outreach
